Who We Are
US Utility Potholing & Air Excavation is a licensed and insured underground utility services company based in Pompano Beach, Florida. We specialize in the full range of subsurface utility investigation services — private utility locating, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning, vacuum excavation (soft dig), utility potholing and daylighting, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) mapping per ASCE 38-02.
We built this company around a single principle: every contractor, engineer, and municipality in South Florida deserves to know exactly what's underground before anyone starts digging. Utility strikes are not accidents. They are the predictable result of skipping or shortcutting utility verification — and they cost projects real money, real time, and sometimes real lives.
Our team brings field-level expertise in South Florida's specific utility environment — the dense urban corridors of Miami-Dade, the mature infrastructure networks of Broward County, and the rapidly developing landscape of Palm Beach County. We work daily in all three counties, and that daily presence gives us local knowledge that national dispatch companies simply can't match.
Our Equipment & Capabilities
We operate professional-grade equipment maintained to the standards expected on civil engineering and municipal projects:
- Vacuum excavation trucks (vac trucks): High-capacity air excavation vac trucks for utility potholing, daylighting, and non-destructive soft dig excavation throughout South Florida. Our trucks operate with air excavation — not water — keeping excavations clean and spoil manageable in all conditions.
- Barrel & air compressor units: Portable air compressor and vacuum barrel systems for access-restricted sites, interior locations, and precision work where a full truck can't maneuver.
- Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR): Professional GPR systems for subsurface utility scanning, concrete scanning, and void detection. We use GPR on every project where standard EM locating isn't sufficient for complete coverage.
- Electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment: Multi-frequency EM locators for active and passive utility tracing, cable and pipe locating, and sonde transmitter use in conduit and pipe.
- GPS survey equipment: Sub-foot GPS for utility location documentation and CAD deliverable production for SUE mapping projects.
Who We Work With
Our clients are the professionals who build and maintain South Florida's infrastructure:
Civil Engineers
Design-phase SUE mapping, QL-A test holes at critical crossings, and GPR data integration into project drawings.
General Contractors
Pre-construction utility clearance, soft dig excavation around live utilities, and emergency response for encountered utilities during construction.
Municipalities
Public works utility locating, SUE mapping for capital projects, and right-of-way utility clearance across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties.
Electric & Power Utilities
Underground electric infrastructure locating, clearance verification, and potholing adjacent to energized lines for electric utility companies and power providers across South Florida.
Our Commitment to Zero Utility Strikes
We have maintained a zero damage-to-live-utilities record since our founding. That's not a marketing claim — it's the direct result of a field process that prioritizes verification over speed, and that treats every underground utility as a potential life-safety hazard until proven otherwise.
Before any excavation begins on a US Utility Potholing project, every known utility within the excavation zone has been located, marked, and verified. We do not cut corners on this process regardless of schedule pressure, and we will not mobilize for an excavation without completing adequate utility verification — even if that means a conversation the contractor didn't want to have.
That standard is why civil engineering firms, general contractors, and municipalities across South Florida trust us with their most sensitive utility work.
Service Area
We serve all of South Florida from our Pompano Beach base: Broward County, Miami-Dade County, and Palm Beach County, with extended coverage available throughout South Florida.
